BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley spoke to members of the media upon arriving at the Launch and Landing Facility at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in respects to SpaceX’s Demo-2 mission on Wednesday, May 20, 2020.
Behnken and Hurley will blast off to the station aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft launched by a Falcon 9 rocket from Kennedy’s Launch Complex 39A, Wednesday, May 27 at 4:33 p.m. EDT.
NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 mission is the first launch with astronauts of the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket to the International Space Station that will serve as a demonstration of SpaceX's crew transportation system while being the first time testing the spacecraft systems in orbit.
A new era of human spaceflight is set to begin as American astronauts once again launch on an American rocket from American soil to low-Earth orbit for the first time since the Space Shuttle Program in 2011.
